Follow these 6 tips to make sure your bully dog petition gains maximum support and generates a positive outcome.
1. SET A REALISTIC SIGNATURE GOAL
Don’t make your goal so easy to hit that it ends up completely ignored by everyone. And don’t make it so large that it requires reaching everyone on Facebook to get results. If your bully dog issue has national appeal, we recommend starting with a minimum signature goal of 5,000.
2. GRAB ATTENTION WITH YOUR PETITION TITLE
Your title is likely the first thing a person will see regarding your petition. Make it stand out. Make it clear. You’ll want to include the name of the organization or person you’re targeting and what change you want to happen.
3. INCLUDE A COMPELLING CALL TO ACTION
If no one signs your petition it’s most likely you didn’t give them a compelling reason to sign and share it. Your petition summary and call to action should command a person to take the time to add their signature and promote it to their personal network.
4. CAPTURE ATTENTION WITH A GREAT IMAGE
The image you use should have an emotional appeal to it that immediately makes a connection between the issue and your audience.
5. MOBILIZE SUPPORT FOR YOUR PETITION
Now that you have a realistic signature goal, clear title, a compelling call to action and an image that stops traffic, you need to make people aware of your petition. The best way to do this is to share it with your friends, family, co-workers, colleagues and other bully dog fans via email and social media. Also, be sure to contact us with it so we can highlight IT on Rock-A-Bully and our social media channels.
6. DELIVER YOUR PETITION
When you’ve hit your signature goal, it’s time to get your petition in the hands of the decision makers. Download the signatures from your petition. Armed with your legion of supporters, email the signature document and your petition link to your target. If you don’t get a response, be respectfully persistent and send it again in a couple of days. Here’s an example email (feel free to highlight copy and paste). Keep it brief and to the point.
TO: [Petition Target’s Email Address(s)]
SUBJECT: [Enter Title of Your Petition]
Dear [Name of Petition Target(s)]:
Attached you’ll find [enter number of signatures] in support of [insert the details of your petition].
As the decision maker for [enter name of organization], myself and the legion of supporters of this petition ask that you make the change outlined in my petition [insert URL address/link to your petition].
As passionate bully dog fans, we’ll continue to be vocal on this matter until we achieve the results we demand. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.
Your Phone Number
If you can’t locate your target’s email address online, it’s often not difficult to guess or obtain an email address over the phone. Email addresses are usually firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or the first initial in the the target’s first name followed by their last name i.e. Nancy Powers: firstname.lastname@example.org. You can try the same approach using gmail.com. Another option is to locate the main number for the organization and let them know you’re trying to email the petition and signatures to your target. More often than not you’ll get an email address.
